The Muskoka Shoebox Project

Our staff has been reading “Girl, wash your face” by @missrachelhollis (if you haven’t read it yet, do it!) It is an inspiring read that promotes women in the business world, as well as at home.  It talks about rising up, reaching your goals, and encourages you to help your fellow ladies strive to be the best they can be.  This led our office to discussing our role in our own community.

From here, we stumbled upon “the shoebox project”.  It inspired us right away to get involved.  We immediately held an in-house meeting with our team to see how we could help fellow women in our community have a better Holiday Season.  With a call into the Muskoka Shoe Box Project, Joanne Buie helped us lay out what was needed in the box, the requirements and how to have fun putting these together.

After a month of brainstorming, we had come up with our list of items!  A cosmetic bag made with love from our staff, cozy cable knit leggings, rib-knit hat, 100% Natural Lip Balm & small perfume from @loveandtoast, scrunchie (they’re making a comeback!) warm socks, lavender bath salts, hand cut soap from @wildprarie, tooth brushes and of course candy!  All ingredients to help make someone feel warm, special and appreciated.

At the suggestion of Joanne, we opted to use clear plastic containers to house our items, so that the women can reuse it to hold their personal belongings the rest of the year.  We purchased decorative tissue to give our boxes the holiday spirit!  This also helps add the element of wonder to our clear bins, so it is still a surprise to open on Christmas day.

We are so thrilled to be able to participate in this charity event for our hometown.  Being able to reach out and help those who are going through a hard time helps build up our community.  It is time for all of us to do our part, and help someone else’s Christmas become a little more special.
